We’re thrilled at the prospect of bringing joy to your day and perhaps inspiring your own adventures. So, buckle up, and let us introduce you to the dynamic crew steering this ship!

Meet Eric: The Pioneer of Our Adventures

Eric, also affectionately known as Dad, Daddy, or Babe, is a Baltimore native who discovered the allure of Deep Creek Lake, Maryland, during regular visits before making Garrett County his home for college in 1998. His passion for adventure led him through the Adventure Sports Program at Garrett College, followed by four years of snowboarding and fun in Mammoth Lakes, California. Fate brought him back to Deep Creek Lake in 2005, where he settled into a job at High Mountain Sports, right beside Brenda’s Pizzeria and Traders Coffee House. It was there, in 2006, that he crossed paths with Terah. The rest, as they say, is history—a history we’re thrilled to unfold together.

Enter Terah: A Garrett County Gem

Terah, a proud 8th generation Garrett Countian, grew up immersed in the beauty of the Appalachian Plateau. After graduating from Northern Garrett High School in 2004, she harbored dreams of becoming a country music singer but had no intention of leaving her cherished home. The universe had different plans. Working in hospitality while attending Garrett College, she met Eric in the summer of 2006 while waitressing at Brenda’s Pizzeria, setting the stage for a whirlwind romance. They started dating that summer, got engaged that December, and walked down the aisle on October 6, 2007—a testament to the “when you know, you know” philosophy.

Marrying at 27 and 22, Eric and Terah embarked on a journey of learning, growing, and building a life together. Their first home, a charming cottage in Thayerville near Deep Creek Lake, became the backdrop for countless memories. They learned to cook, host dinners and parties, earn, save, travel, and most importantly, love. They faced incredible challenges, and experienced unimaginable joys. But no joy would come close to that of welcoming their children. Asher was born in 2012, and Sawyer a few years later in 2016.

Nestled in the heart of Garrett County, Maryland, the Crawford’s home, Deep Creek Lake is more than just a picturesque vacation destination—it’s a haven for adventure seekers and those yearning for the tranquility of the Appalachian foothills. Serving as a magnet for visitors from Pittsburgh, PA, Baltimore, MD, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia, the allure of this region is undeniable. It’s no surprise that establishments like High Mountain Sports thrive, offering an array of gear and equipment to cater to the vibrant outdoor culture.

Garrett County: An Adventure Playground

Our corner of the world is a hotbed of exhilarating activities. Picture yourself swimming, boating, paddle-boarding, water skiing, wakeboarding, or wake-surfing on the pristine Deep Creek Lake. For thrill-seekers, the Youghiogheny River and Adventure Sports Center International provide the perfect stage for white-water kayaking or rafting. As the seasons change, the slopes of Wisp Resort beckon, transforming into one of the Mid-Atlantic’s premier ski resorts.

But that’s just the beginning. With nine state parks scattered across the county and four golf courses, there’s an overwhelming abundance of fun awaiting exploration. It’s a place where the love for adventure is contagious—a sentiment that captivated Terah, our family’s culinary aficionado and local enthusiast.

Terah’s Culinary Odyssey

Terah’s journey took root in the vibrant hospitality scene of Garrett County. Starting at the iconic Four Season’s Dining Room at Will O’ the Wisp during her high school days in 2004 (while picking up some shifts at the Pizzeria in later years), she soon found herself drawn into a world where flavors, aromas, and culinary creativity collided. A transition from Will O’s kitchen’s hustle to the front of the house was just the beginning. Managing the newly built cocktail lounge at Will O’ the Wisp in 2008 opened doors to a realm of wine and beer pairings, crafting cocktails, and even curating live entertainment. It was here that Terah discovered her passion for the alchemy of food and the art of hospitality.

As she steered her career towards becoming the general manager of The Four Seasons Dining Room, the story took an unexpected twist. In 2012, Terah and Eric joyfully announced their entry into parenthood, and life took on a whole new flavor. It was just a month before their child’s arrival that the restaurant would close following the owner’s retirement.

Introducing Asher: Our Ray of Light

December 2012 marked a juncture of uncertainty and joy for the Crawford family—a time when the closure of the restaurant coincided with the arrival of a radiant soul named Asher Crawford. Overcoming early challenges, Asher’s entry into the world enchanted everyone with his bright blue eyes and golden locks. For Terah, who had once navigated the bustling restaurant scene, those initial 12 weeks ushered in a profound connection with motherhood.

Today, Asher stands on the brink of adolescence, a beacon of wit, care, and a passion for sports. His love for reading is unparalleled, especially when it comes to graphic novels like the Wings of Fire series. In the realm of video games, Asher exhibits impressive interest and expertise on his Xbox and Nintendo Switch. Despite these pursuits, he remains dedicated to his academics, never skipping out on homework and diligently practicing his trumpet.

From conquering the baseball and soccer fields to navigating snow-covered slopes on his snowboard, Asher’s zest for life is palpable. While he may not play football on a team, his love for the game mirrors that of his father, uncle, and grandfather. Tossing the ball around the yard with anyone who has a spare few minutes brings him immense joy, as does indulging in games of Madden on his Xbox. Above all, he cherishes trips to Baltimore to witness the Ravens play in person with Eric.

Asher’s academic journey mirrors his diverse talents. A love for language arts and science, coupled with an impressive knack for mastering complex Lego builds, showcases the breadth of his abilities. As Asher navigates the path to his future, the possibilities stretch as vast as the landscapes surrounding Deep Creek Lake. Will he choose a path in law, medicine, engineering, law enforcement, or perhaps something entirely different? Only time will unveil the incredible journey that lies ahead, and we eagerly anticipate witnessing every step of Asher’s extraordinary odyssey.

Harmonies and Homesteads: Terah’s Musical Interlude

Music, a love that never faded even when Terah exchanged her dreams of stardom for the serenity of mountain life. Long before Asher entered the picture, Terah found herself drawn to the stage, occasionally sitting in with local bands at beloved Deep Creek Lake watering holes. In 2013, after four years of sporadic performances, Terah received an offer for her very own gig at Mountain State Brewing Company in McHenry, MD—an opportunity she quickly embraced, albeit with a touch of anxiety. How could she fill a three-hour set with solo performances on her guitar? The solution came in the form of collaboration. Terah enlisted the help of musician friends, including Eric’s dad on lead guitar, to craft a setlist for the show. Armed with borrowed equipment and a shared passion for music, they threw everything they had into that first performance, billed as the “Terah Crawford Band.” Little did they know that this initial endeavor would mark the beginning of a musical journey that has endured for a decade. Now, ten years, and hundreds of shows later, the Terah Crawford Band has become a permanent fixture in the regional music scene. What started as a solo endeavor has blossomed into a collaborative adventure that has enriched Terah’s life in ways she could have never predicted. And, fortunately, Eric and the boys have happily joined her on this musical ride, making it a cherished chapter in the ongoing story of our family’s adventures.

Terah’s Uncharted Path

A new trajectory unfolded when, faced with the prospect of returning to work after Asher’s birth and the conclusion of her maternity leave, Terah found herself at a crossroads. Contemplating two distinct hospitality opportunities—one at a well-established restaurant and another involving the opening of a brand-new establishment—Terah’s life took an unexpected turn. In a twist of fate that had become somewhat of a hallmark in the couple’s journey, an unforeseen opportunity knocked on their door at the most unexpected time. A cherished customer from her days at Will O’ the Wisp, impressed by Terah’s marketing prowess, social media skills, and her genuine love for people and the Deep Creek Lake area, offered her a position as the marketing director of his real estate company. This marked a seismic shift in her career—welcoming a well-paying office job with no nights, weekends, or holidays. Talk about a significant change of pace! Eagerly accepting the position, Terah stepped into a role that would alter the Crawford family’s trajectory indefinitely. For two years, Terah served as the Marketing Director, honing her skills and showcasing her talents. In a transformative move, she obtained her real estate license, opening the door to a new chapter where she began assisting buyers and sellers throughout Garrett County, MD. In 2018, the firm where she began her real estate journey was absorbed by a larger local company, leading Terah to join the remarkable team at Taylor-Made Deep Creek Sales in McHenry, MD. Her passion and proficiency in real estate are unparalleled, and she continues to illuminate the path in this dynamic career. Terah’s journey from the bustling kitchen of a renowned restaurant to the vibrant world of real estate is a testament to the unexpected opportunities life can unveil. Join us on “Family, Forks, and Foothills” as we explore the diverse chapters of our family’s story, where each twist and turn contributes to the rich tapestry of our lives.

Introducing Sawyer: Enter Stage Left

The journey of parenthood, for us, has been an unparalleled adventure—one that surpasses any other experience life has to offer. As a family of three, we navigated the whirlwind of learning and growing together. Then, after four fast-paced years, the announcement of expanding our family with the arrival of a second child filled our home with anticipation and joy. In September of 2016, we welcomed Sawyer Lynn into the world, and from his first moments, he embarked on a mission to entertain and keep us on our toes.

Sawyer, a born performer, displayed an early interest in music and art, signaling an old soul within. His eclectic musical tastes and love for vintage TV shows and musicals stand as a testament to his unique personality. Beyond his artistic inclinations, Sawyer’s advanced reading and speaking skills suggest a journey destined for the big stage. Currently enrolled in musical theater classes at the Mountain City Center for the Arts in Frostburg, MD, Sawyer thrives in an environment that nurtures his talents. Sawyer’s fascination with music extends beyond listening; he’s on the path to becoming a skilled drummer, evident in the rhythmic beats that echo through our home most mornings. His knowledge of brass instruments is impressive, and he can regale you with details about the Beatles, particularly his idol, Paul McCartney. The ins and outs of Disney movies are at his fingertips, with Mary Poppins currently holding the crown as his favorite. When it comes to books, Sawyer gravitates towards “Who Was, What Was,” and other age-appropriate history books, showcasing a curious mind eager to explore the world.

Observing two children, Asher and Sawyer, grow up under the same roof yet evolve into distinct individuals with their unique passions and personalities is a fascinating journey. The contrast in their interests, despite shared experiences and exposures, adds another layer to our adventure of family, forks, and foothills. Stay tuned as we continue to unravel the delightful chapters of our family’s story, one full of surprises and shared love.

Homebound Horizons: The Farmhouse Chronicles

In 2017, as Sawyer took his tentative first steps, the realization dawned upon the Crawford family that their charming 900-square-foot red cottage was no longer sufficient. It was time to bid farewell to the cozy abode and embrace a new chapter. The family transitioned to a spacious, newly renovated 1970s farmhouse nestled on 2 acres, offering not only vast indoor spaces but also expansive views of the surrounding landscape.

This move unearthed a trove of exciting, previously untold adventures for the Crawfords. The farmhouse became a canvas for new experiences, featuring a large vegetable garden that breathed life into the outdoors, the cheerful clucking of laying hens, and forays into the world of food preservation. Beyond the homestead, Terah embarked on a fragrant venture with the establishment of Mountain Magic Candle Company—an aromatherapy business that added another layer to their diverse avenues of growth.

Fast forward to 2023, and the couple commemorates over 16 years of marriage surrounded by their rapidly growing boys, Asher and Sawyer. The farmhouse stands not just as a shelter but as a backdrop to a myriad of heartwarming stories, illustrating the profound impact a change of residence can have on the ever-evolving tale of the Crawford family’s life, love, and adventures.

Eric’s Journey to Team Taylor-Made

The year 2021 brought both challenge and change for our family and the Garrett County community, marked by the sudden loss of our dear friend and Taylor-Made Deep Creek Sales Real Estate Broker, Bob Carney. Capturing the vivacity of Bob’s personality and the enormity of his heart would require volumes, as his impact on Eric and Terah’s lives was profound. The Garrett County community, in its resilient spirit, continues to beautifully honor his memory every day.

Bob’s passing left Taylor-Made Deep Creek Sales at a crossroads. In the wake of this tragedy, and after heartfelt conversations with Jay Ferguson, owner of TMDCS and a cherished friend, Terah made a pivotal decision. She applied for the broker position and, following a series of interviews with the Taylor-Made owners, accepted the role. This marked the beginning of yet another chapter in the ever-evolving adventure of the Crawford Crew.

With Terah transitioning to a leadership role within the company, a new opportunity arose. Eric, who had been excelling in his role at Team One Chevy GMC Buick, selling cars with great proficiency, harbored a longstanding interest in real estate. The timing, propelled by fate, was perfect. While Eric could have pursued real estate at any point, the couple recognized the potential risks of both incomes relying solely on commission. As Terah assumed a salaried position, Eric stepped into the world of real estate, taking over her established business.

Two years into this arrangement, we’re delighted to share that things are not just working out; they’re thriving. Eric has carved his niche in the real estate business, showcasing remarkable skills, while Terah flourishes in her leadership role at Taylor-Made. What initially seemed like a fateful turn of events has become a testament to the resilience and adaptability of our family. Join us as we navigate the twists and turns of this newfound chapter, turning a poignant page in the ongoing story of Family, Fork, and Foothills.
